A Two Knights Review by Sir Julius on Can We Play Again? By Corine Dehghanpisheh

Sir Julius's Review:
 Four Stars!

I liked this story. It taught me that if I feel sad that it is okay to talk to someone about it. Sometimes I miss my dad when he goes to work too. I was happy that the girl didn't feel sad anymore and that she played with with her dog again. I was starting to feel really bad for him.

Mom's Thoughts:

I really like to find unique stories for kids, and this is one of them. This book could be a great resource for a child that is in therapy, and perhaps feeling awkward about his or her situation. However, it is also a valuable lesson for other children, who may not need therapy, to be sensitive to what their peers may be going through. Overall, I think the author did a great job creating a story on a child's level that promotes compassion and understanding. Well done, Corine!

A Two Knights Review by Sir Julius on Clothes Have Feelings Too. Charlie Learns To Care For His Things by Ari Mazor

Clothes Have Feelings Too. Charlie Learns to Care for His Things
By Ari Mazor

Sir Julius's Review:

I really like this book and would read it again. The best part was when the clothes wanted to hide on Charlie. I liked that the clothes could talk. This story taught me that it is good to take care of my dirty clothes.

Mom's Thoughts:

This is the second book that we've read by Ari and the author has picked some great life lessons to touch upon.  I know this author is younger, but to me that is an advantage in their favor. Ari is able to get down to a child's level and make the story appealing. Any story that can encourage my children to pick up their dirty clothes is a winner. The illustrations were colorful and appealing. Well done again, Ari!

A Two Knights Review by Sir Isaiah on Face to Face with Leopards by Dereck and Beverly Joubert

Face to Face With Leopards
By Dereck and Beverly Joubert

Sir Isaiah's Review:

I love big cats and this book was very cool. Mr. and Mrs. Joubert are brave. I would be afraid to be attacked. I hope someday I will be able to hold a baby leopard. While reading this book I learned some amazing facts about leopards. 1) A leopard uses its spots to camouflage themselves. That's when an animal can blend in with its environment. 2) Most leopards avoid humans, but they will attack too protect themselves. 3) Leopards prey on antelope and deer. 4) Leopards are great climbers and swimmers. The swimming part surprised me. I didn't think cats liked water. 5) Leopards can be found in a lot of places. Asia, Africa, and even in Russia. They don't have to live where it is hot all the time.
I really liked this book. If you want to learn more about leopards then you should definitely check this book out.

Mom's Thoughts:

Isaiah really picked out a great book this time! What an amazing experience for the Jouberts and we learned a lot about these incredible cats. It pleases me when explorers or scientist respect nature when doing their research, and my favorite part was when Mr. Joubert tried to mimic mom's hiss to discourage the baby from jumping into their jeep.  Another important aspect of this story to me was the message of awareness and the decline in the number of leopards that are left. We need to take care of our planet...including the animals. Leopards are beautiful creatures and I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

Two Knights Review by Sir Julius of Chick n' Pug Meet the Dude by Jennifer Sattler

Chick n' Pug Meet the Dude by Jennifer Sattler

Sir Julius's Review:

I loved this book, because I have a pug named Mia, and she is just as lazy as Pug! It made me laugh. The pictures in the book were great and I could read this book again and again.

Mom's Thoughts:

When looking for a book to read, Julius tends to go for the books that will make him laugh or superheroes! Pug's cape in the illustrations really threw us off, but in a really great way! We were expecting a "superhero" pug, but was tickled to find out he was every bit as laid back as our own. The illustrations were wonderful. I really enjoyed reading this with Julius, and the story was adorable. This is one of those children's books that I would not mind reading over again.

A Two Knights Review by Sir Isaiah's Review of City Chickens by Christine Hepperman

Title: City Chickens
Author: Christine Heppermann
Genre:  Juvenile Non-fiction

Sir Isaiah's Review:

I love to read non-fiction books and research facts. We started raising chicks this year and I wanted to learn more about them. This book was about chickens who were rescued. Three facts that I learned about chickens was:
1) They like to eat plain spaghetti and lettuce.
2) When a chicken rolls in the dirt its taking a dust bath to keep its feathers shiny and clean.
3)  Chickens are the most abused animals in the world.

If you want to learn more about how to help rescue homeless chickens this would be a good book to read.

Mom's Thoughts:

This was a really interesting read. I didn't realize that people actually drop off chickens to their local animal shelters. Sadly, most are put to sleep, because of their involvement in fighting rings. Mary Britton Clouse is awesome. She was able to get her city home permitted to house homeless chickens, and started the Chicken Run Rescue in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

What was really disconcerting was that most of the chickens were coming from local schools who hatched the eggs for a school project. When the project was done they would drop the eggs off at the shelter.

Overall, this was a very informative read and promoted awareness of an inner city issue revolving not just around dogs/cats, but chickens too.

A Two Knights Review by Sir Julius of Come Back Dear Sun by Geena Bean

Come Back Dear Sun by Geena Bean

Sir Julius's Review:

I really liked this book. It made me sad that the sun decided to never come out again. My favorite part was when the kids stayed outside at night to talk to the moon. I'm glad this book had a happy ending, and I would read this one again.

Mom's Thoughts:

This story touches on a subject that needs more attention. How many hours a day do our children sit before a computer, video games, television or on phones? The author does a wonderful job of giving us the sun's point of view and promotes awareness to children, as well as parents, about how much time is spent in a sedentary position.

This story is unique, the first I've seen on the this topic, and is a must read. Well done, Ms. Bean!

Sir Isaiah’s Review:

I thought the pictures in the book were pretty good and very colorful.  The lesson I learned from the book was teamwork, because all the instruments worked together on their journey to Jazzland.

Mom’s Thoughts:

This story was in-depth, but would appeal to children who have a passion for music.  Ms. de Saulnier has given us a great description on the sound that each instrument creates and gives us a glimpse at the world of jazz music.

This book may appeal to children as young as five years old, but depending on their level of reading….you may have to read it for them.

Sammy is a shark looking for some new friends. The problem is, his looks scare the other sea creatures. This short story will motivate and inspire your kids to be active about the things they want to achieve in life. They will also learn to never to give-up. Your kids will enjoy full colorful illustrations of Sammy The Shark and all of the sea creatures he meets.

Sir Julius's Review:

Mom: Julius what did you think of the pictures in the book?

I liked the pictures in this book. They were very colorful.

Mom: What did you think of how the other fish were treating Sammy?

Sammy the Shark is nice to everyone. It made me sad when the other fish would not be nice to him.  If I met Sammy, I would have been friends with him.

Mom: Do you think there was a lesson to be learned in this book?

This book taught me that I should always give new people a chance.  Oh, and to always let adults go through the door first. (The last sentence is just a complete Juliusism).

Mom: How many stars would you give this book? 5-It was Excellent, 4-It was Great, 3-It was Okay.

This book was a Five. I would read it again.

Mom's Thoughts:

This adorable read touches on a great life lesson of not judging others, plus I loved the little tidbit of the illegal fishermen. It gave me and opportunity to discuss conservation and the respect we should have for the planet we live on. Kudos to the author. Mr. Bishop has a few more of these great books available on Amazon and we look forward to checking them out too!

Two Knights Book Reviews: Julius reads Oh no! There Are Monsters In My Room and Daddy's Magic Spell by Mark Eichler

Julius's Review:
I read Oh No! There Are Monsters In My Room and Daddy's Magic Spell by Mark Eichler

What I liked most about the book were the monsters. They are funny. I liked the Dad's spell too, and I am going to practice it for myself.

I give this book ***** stars, because it was excellent and I would read it again!

Mom's Thoughts:
I am Julius's mom, Angela and we read this book together. The illustrations were great and he thoroughly enjoyed Dad's Magic Spell! As a mom, I love books that touch on childhood issues. This was a great book to ease any child who may be dealing with this issue at nighttime.  I have a feeling this will be a regular request at bedtime!
